POST/api/translate

Translate text to braille, or braille back to text, in Unified English Braille.

curl -X POST https://braille2text.com/api/translate \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "direction": "text-to-braille",
    "grade": 1,
    "text": "Hello, world!"
  }'

# { "output": "⠠⠓⠑⠇⠇⠕⠂ ⠺⠕⠗⠇⠙⠖", ... }

direction: text-to-braille or braille-to-text. grade: 1 or 2, in both directions. language: one of the codes from /api/languages, English by default. Line breaks are kept. Max 20,000 characters. Braille output uses Unicode braille with ordinary spaces between words.

GET/api/languages

The languages the translator supports, which grades each one has, and whether braille can be read back into it.

curl https://braille2text.com/api/languages
POST/api/plate

Braille dots at real physical size: SVG in millimetres, PNG at 300 dpi, or STL for 3D printing.

curl -X POST https://braille2text.com/api/plate \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{ "text": "Room 12", "spec": "marburg", "format": "svg" }' \
  -o room-12.svg

format: svg, png, stl or json. spec: marburg (books and embossers) or ada (US signage). Max 200 characters.

POST/api/brf

curl -X POST https://braille2text.com/api/brf \
  -F "file=@/path/to/document.brf" \
  -F "format=pdf" -o document.pdf

format: json (default), pdf or txt. Max file size: 10 MB.

GET/api/alphabet

Reference table of UEB letters, digits, punctuation, symbols and indicators. Each entry lists its cells and the raised dots of each cell.

Convert a PDF or DOCX file into a Braille Ready Format (.brf) file in UEB Grade 2.

curl -X POST https://braille2text.com/api/documents \
  -F "file=@/path/to/document.pdf" \
  -o output.brf

Max file size: 10 MB.

POST/api/ocr

Experimental: detect braille dots in a photo and return the Unicode braille grid, plus a best-effort text guess.

curl -X POST https://braille2text.com/api/ocr \
  -F "file=@/path/to/photo.jpg"

# { "braille": "⠓⠊", "dotsDetected": 8, "cellsDetected": 2, "textGuess": "..." }
