Terms of use

The rules for using Braillify’s tools and API.

Last updated: 13 September 2026

Free during early access

All Braillify tools and the public API are free to use during early access, for personal, educational and commercial purposes, without an account. Features, limits and pricing may change as the service develops; paid plans will be announced on the pricing page before they apply to anyone.

Accuracy

Braille is produced automatically and may contain errors. Braillify follows Unified English Braille (UEB); it does not produce maths notation such as Nemeth Code or mark text styling; and the image reader is experimental. The tools are provided “as is”, without any warranty, and you are responsible for checking the result before relying on it. Material where a mistake could cause harm — exam papers, medication and medical information, legal documents, safety and permanent signage — should be proofread by a qualified braille transcriber.

Fair use and rate limits

The service runs on shared infrastructure, so requests are limited per IP address. At present the limits are 60 translation requests, 10 document conversions and 10 image readings in any five-minute window. Requests over the limit receive HTTP 429 with a Retry-After header. Do not try to get around the limits, overload the service, or use it to process content you have no right to use.

Your content

You keep all rights to the text and files you submit and to the braille produced from them. Braillify does not store your content — see the privacy policy.

Open-source software

Braille translation is performed by liblouis, which is distributed under the GNU Lesser General Public License. Its braille tables are the work of the liblouis contributors.

Availability and liability

We aim to keep Braillify available but do not guarantee uninterrupted service, and a tool may be changed or withdrawn. To the extent the law allows, Braillify is not liable for any loss arising from using the service or from errors in its output.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated as the service changes. The date at the top shows the latest version; continuing to use Braillify after a change means you accept the updated terms.
