N in braille

The letter N is one braille cell: dots 1-3-4-5.
⠝
dots 1-3-4-5
capital: ⠠⠝

How the cell is built

A braille cell has six positions: dots 1, 2 and 3 down the left side, dots 4, 5 and 6 down the right. N belongs to the second ten, k to t, which repeat a to j with dot 3 added. Written on its own the letter is lowercase; the capital sign (dot 6) in front makes it a capital, so N is ⠠⠝.

What N means in contracted braille

In Grade 2 (contracted) braille, the single cell ⠝ standing alone is not the letter but the word not. To write the letter by itself, the grade 1 indicator (dots 5-6) goes in front: ⠰⠝.
